Panel Design Captain Bed
The solid wood captain bed in panel design is perfect for kids or adults since it can support 400 pounds. This bed is part of our Cottage Collection, and we named it for its panel style, an homage to the design of wooden panels of shipping crates. The 2626 refers to the height of the headboard and footboard, which are 26 inches each. A Captain bed is a platform bed with two rows of drawers under the bed.
This Captain Panel Bed comes in six sizes, including extra-long versions for taller individuals. It can be used with any Canadian standard-size mattress and does not require a box spring.
You can add a two-row dresser underneath this bed to optimize your space. Alternatively, you can add a storage trundle bed and an underbed dresser. Matching night tables, dressers, and chests of drawers are also available.
Cottage Collection
We have different collections of beds and bunk beds, and each group has its characteristics. Our Cottage collection has a husky and traditional look and feel, which you may see in a cottage, hence the name. This collection has its roots in Ontario’s cottage country.
In this collection, we use mortise and tenon joinery for most strength. All drawers inside the dressers or nightstands are dovetailed joinery. Our Cottage collection is a lifelong investment; we build them strong enough to last you a long time.
We use durable, non-toxic, low-VOC finishes to make the Cottage collection the clean, healthy choice for your home. All colours are wood stain, not paint, including the white finish. Wood stain is ideal for showing the natural beauty of wood grains. You can also choose unfinished if you wish to apply your colour.
Our finishes include volatile organic compounds (or VOCs) in liquid form. These ingredients allow finishes to be applied by spraying. Once a finish is applied, the ingredients evaporate during drying and curing, releasing the VOCs. Finished wood surfaces do not emit VOCs once they are cured.
Hardware and Assembly
The assembly of our Cottage collection is reasonably straightforward. You do not need to assemble the ladders, headboards, case goods, and underbed storage drawers since we ship them pre-assembled. Case goods are boxy items like nightstands and dressers. We recommend two adults for easier assembly and handling.
We use high-quality hardware for this collection. The hardware, instructions, and a simple allen key are included. You will need a Phillips screwdriver; you do not need power tools.
Solid Wood
Our Cottage collection mainly uses Southern Yellow Pine, the wood of choice on wooden roller coasters. We use knot-free premium wood with no finger-joint pieces for maximum strength, which allows us to achieve a weight capacity of 400 pounds.
For case goods, we use plywood for the back panels and the bottom of the drawers. The case goods' casing, or shell, is solid wood and solid wood veneer for the top part.
Solid wood furniture products, such as bed frames, loft beds, and bunk beds, are robust, easy to maintain, beautiful to look at and retain value.
Bed Slats and Center Support
The slats in our Cottage collection are knotty solid pine. Each slat is 5.5 inches wide, and nine slats per deck. Lofts and bed frames have nine slats, and bunk beds have 18 slats. All sizes use the same number of slats per deck.
The space between the slats is 3.5 inches for single and double slats and more for other sizes. If you wish to add an extra bed slat to reduce the spacing or as a spare, you can order one individual slat.
We do not use center support for our queen and extra-long beds and bunks in this collection. You must screw in every slat from both ends to the mattress rails, which is sufficient to achieve the strength you need. We add a center support bar, without vertical posts, to our king-size bed frames in this collection.
We use high-quality hardware for this collection. We include the hardware, instructions, and a simple Allen key inside the mattress rail box. You will need a Phillips screwdriver but do not need power tools.
We recommend two adults for easier assembly and handling.
