Solid Wood Platform Beds
Besides bunk beds, our other specialty is solid wood platform beds. A platform bed is an ordinary bed frame with a 'platform' upon which the mattress rests. A platform bed, therefore, removes the need for a box spring. Some platforms have slats, and some have boards. Our platform beds use wood slats, allowing your mattress to breathe, keeping it fresh and mould free. A bunk bed is technically two platform beds, one on top of the other with pins to secure them.
Solid Wood Daybeds
Day Beds are platform beds, but they have a head and footboard of the same height. There is often also a back side connecting the head and footboards.
Daybeds mimic a sofa bed in look and function but, in reality, they are just standard beds and take a regular size single mattress. Like our solid wood platform beds, all our daybeds are also made from solid woods such as Southern Yellow Pine or Birch.
Captain beds and mate's beds
As the name suggests, captain beds have their roots in the nautical world. You have to use every inch of space in the confined areas available on ships. Put two rows of drawers under your platform bed, and you have a 'Captain Bed.' Mate's beds are the same as the captain's, but they have just one row of drawers under the platform.
Both captain and mate's beds come with or without bookcase headboards. We use solid wood on all of our captain beds.
Trundle beds
Trundle Beds are slats on wheels, so you can put a mattress over the slats and roll it under the platform bed. You pull them out when you have guests and sleepovers.
A storage Trundle Bed is a massive box on wheels. You can put a mattress inside the box or use it as storage. The majority of our trundle beds are solid wood storage trundle beds.
Under Bed Drawers
Underbed Drawers are more or less self-explanatory. They are boxes on wheels that roll under the platform beds. Mostly they wheel in and out, and some models are like horizontal chests of drawers. That is drawers on glides that don't roll on the ground.
Platform Bed Sizes
You can use any standard-size mattress with our solid wood platform beds. Mattress sizes in the USA and Canada follow the same standard; therefore, buying your mattress on either side of the board will fit our beds just fine. European and Asian mattress sizes are different than North American sizes.
Made in Canada Platform Beds
Our solid wood platform beds are from different factories and countries. Still, our Cottage Collection beds are the only collection that is Canadian make. We understand there is a healthy bias toward homemade products. Still, we believe 'it is not important where you make a product, but how you make it.' All of our solid wood platform beds are well-made.
