About Bunk Beds
Our bunk beds are predominantly made from solid wood such as New Zealand Pine, Rubberwood or Birch. Solid wood furniture, like bunk beds, lasts a long time, is sustainable, and is easy to fix, though it costs more than engineered wood. On most of our bunk beds, we use knot-free premium wood, which has no finger joint to achieve high weight capacity. That is why our bunk beds are suitable for adults, teens as well as children.
About Mattresses
You can not use just any kind of mattress for your bunk bed. Although the length and width of a mattress are standard, its thickness is not. One to three inches thick is usually a mattress topper. You can get mattresses anywhere from four inches in thickness to even seventeen inches. On a regular platform bed, you can use any thickness mattress as you wish, but not on a bunk bed. The reason is the clearance. We have three clearance zones on a bunk: between the two decks, from the top of the upper mattress to the top of the guardrail and from the top of the upper bed to the ceiling. We recommend a maximum of six inches thick mattress for a majority of our bunk beds. You can go as high as eight in some of our bunks, which will be the maximum we recommend.
