Bunk Bed Climbing Guide

1. Vertical Ladder
1. Vertical Ladder
A bit harder to climb, but takes less floor space and easie if putting under bed storage.
There are always trade offs on our choices. Vertical ladder is harder to climb, but takes less floor space. Also if you want to put trundle bed, or storage bins, under your bunk, Vertical ladder allows easier access.
Usage:
If you room is fairly small and every inch counts.
If you want to use trundle bed or storage bins.
If you worry about obstacles.
If you like tidier look.

2. Angled Ladder
2. Angled Ladder
Easier to climb, but takes more floor space and may limit the access to under bed storage
Easier to climb, and more importantly, easier to decent (climb down). Climbing up is not all that difficult, climbing down however – especially in the middle of night – is another matter. You don’t have to tighten the ladder to frame, keep the ladder loose and you can push it in or tuck it away during the day time.
Usage:
If your prefer to climb at ease, angle ladder is a better choice over vertical.

3. Staircase
3. Staircase
Most safe and easy to climb, extra storage inside drawers, but takes cmore space and adds to cost
We recommend climbing age at 6 years old. Sometimes you have one child over 6 and is fine for sleeping on the top bunk, but you also have 2 years old. They are not easy to police all day long. Sooner or later they like to crawl up and not get behind of their older sibling.
Staircase is the safest way of climbing up or down a bunk bed.
Usage:
If safety is your main concern.
If you have extra 20” or so by 42” extra room for stairs.
If you have healthy budget.

4. Built-in Ladder

Monkey bar style of climbing ... fairly intuitive
Believe it or not, this type is fairly easy to climb up or down. Think of monkey bars, same concept. Draw back, if any, is that you have to climb over the headboard. So not the most dignified way if that is on your criteria list.
Usage:
A good compromise to vertical ladder.
You have more foot and hand hold to operate.
Very small footprint.
Can put storage under bunk with easy access.
